Basketball Search Research: Season and Playoffs

The NBA season is long and flat, then short and steep. More than 1,200 regular-season games give a steady base of game-level questions; the playoffs compress interest into nine weeks. Build evergreen season pages first, then series pages when the bracket is set.

Season-level and game-level intent

Two kinds of question run through the year. Season questions (standings, award races, the trade deadline) suit evergreen pages that are updated in place. Game questions (tonight's games, injuries, start times) change daily and are often answered by search features. A small team should usually own the season pages and link to official sources for daily detail.

Publishing checklist

  1. Publish the season guide before tip-off and update it at the All-Star break and the end of the regular season.
  2. Create the bracket hub when the playoff field is set; add series pages as matchups are confirmed.
  3. Add Finals dates only from the league's own announcement, and record the date you checked.
  4. Retire nothing: keep the season guide URL and update it next year, so links keep working.

For comparing visibility across a playoff run, fix the keyword set and settings first, as in our competitor visibility method.

Market notes

  • US. Since Murphy v. NCAA (May 14, 2018), each state decides on sports betting. The AGA's Responsible Marketing Code asks that ads run only where at least 73.6% of the audience is reasonably expected to be 21 or older.
  • Canada. Single-event betting has been legal since August 27, 2021, with provinces conducting and managing it. In Ontario the iGaming minimum age is 19.

Questions

When does the 2026-27 NBA season start and end?

The NBA says it tips off on October 20, 2026, and the regular season ends on April 11, 2027.

When are the 2027 NBA Finals?

In June 2027. Exact dates had not been published when we checked, so the calendar marks them provisional.

Should every game get its own page?

Rarely. Many near-identical game pages risk Google's doorway and scaled content policies. Season and series pages with real analysis usually serve readers better.
